[Physical Plant] Grounds Helper/Gardener (OPEN TO WORK STUDY & CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT)

Position: Grounds Helper

Salary Grade: S1                                                                               
FSLA Status: Non-exempt
 
Location of Position: Physical Plant, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157
 
Duration of Appointment: Academic School Year
 
Scope: Assist the Grounds Department in maintaining campus 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Planting, watering, weeding, mulching, edging, and clean-up of all annuals, perennials, shrub beds, and borders.
  • Mowing and landscaping of grounds using all types of power equipment
  • Operating various types of equipment, including power mower, saws, edger, shears, light to medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies, and light or medium tractors and attachment used to maintain grounds as needed.
  • Assisting with set-ups and major campus events.
  • Performing other duties as assigned
 
Schedule:
  • Available hours between 7am and 4pm.

Qualifications:
  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather
  • Conscientious, safe, and efficient execution of assigned work
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions and use a/your smart phone for 2 way commutations and mobile dispatch.
  • Ability to work in cooperation with other team members toward company goals

Physical Characteristics:
 
  • Ability to work in noise, heat, cold, odors, dirt, outdoor temperatures, snow, steam, and emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift; carry; and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance as well as being able to kneel; squat; reach above the head, at the wait, and below the knees.
  • Ability to repetitively push and pull equipment (for example, pallet jack, push mower, hand truck) containing product loads a minimum of 100 yards without assistance.
  • Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over sustained periods of time to complete job activities.
  • Ability to stand a minimum of 6 hours during the workday.
